Skeeter Book Club Reads @ Black Elementary

February 22nd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Miscellaneous

One of the highlights of Skeeter Reader book club is our annual service project, reading to Kindergartners and first-graders at the local elementary school. Our members are excited to share their love of reading with younger students. They practice reading aloud and showing pictures from the book they choose. Each teen also helps their class make some cute bookmarks for their books. There are lots of smiles and great stories from the classrooms on the way home. If you went on the field trip, please leave a comment about what you liked best.

Book Club’s First Choice

September 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Miscellaneous

The Skeeter Readers had their first meeting of the new school year last Tuesday. There was a nice turn out, but we can always use more participants!

The first book chosen for the book club is a Tayshastayshas book. Everyone was allowed to choose their own title and will meet next month to discuss what the books have in common. It’s not too late to pick up your copy at the library. We have several titles to choose from. Ms. Harman and Ms. Cushing have read quite a few and can help you with your selection.

Stay tuned here and listen to the morning announcement for the next meeting. We hope to see you there!

Come by and take a look at our new books!

So many to choose from…new fiction is on top of the bookshelves, new non-fiction is sitting on a cart in front of the glass display case, Tayshas books are located on the bookshelf located just inside the front door.

You’re bound to find something interesting to read, and if you can’t….talk to a librarian! We’ll be happy to help!

library card catalog

Does anyone remember these? If you asked a kid today to look in the card catalog, they’d say “Huh?!”

I remember the days of going to the drawers and trying to find that all important book for the research paper I had to TYPE and footnote. Yeah….I don’t miss that! But the cards were cool…..
